Queen City Dance Academy offers recreational and competitive classes.  High quality of instruction is integral to our mission of providing the best dance education for dancers of all ages.
Classes for all levels are offered where you can find the right fit for you. QCDA ensures proper technique with a dose of fun!

Dancers can join our classes any time of the year. With 4 studios and highly trained teachers, we are ready to help you achieve your goals.

Teen/Adult

Fundamental classes are for students who are entering dance later in life (12 and up) or for adults.  The curriculum moves at a rapid pace.  The goal is to get dancers quickly caught up so that they can enter peer group classes.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


Magical Movement & Dance Mix

Magical Movement Parent Participation
Details: Ages 2-3 with parent participation; introductory class
Description: This class provides the opportunity to explore creative movement and begin awareness of the body. Using props like scarves, tambourines, and drums, the dancers will learn to move their body to different rhythms and patterns. A parent or adult is required to attend this class with their dancer.

Dance Mix 1
Details: Ages 3 & 4
Description: A combination class of ballet and jazz movements. Ideal for the young dancer who is ready for more than our Magical Movement class but not quite ready for a primary ballet or jazz level 1 class.

Dance Mix 2
Details: For Ages 4-6
Description: A combination class of ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop. Ideal for the young dancer who is ready to be introduced a variety of dance styles. Each week, the class will focus on two different styles of dance.

Dance Mix 3
Details: Ages 6-10
Description: Ideal for the young dancer who wants to try 4 different styles of dance: Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop and Tap. Each week dancers will work on two of these styles during class. They styles will rotate throughout the month.

BALLET

Ballet 1
Details: Ages 6-9; for the beginning dancer.
Class Description: The dancer will learn foundational, curriculum-based ballet technique in a fun and nurturing environment.

Ballet 1A
Details: Ages 4.5-6; dancer must be invited to this class.
Class Description: This class is for our youngest dancers who show an accelerated focus and ability for ballet. By invitation only.

Ballet 2
Details: Ages 7-11; dancer must have completed Ballet 1
Class Description: This curriculum-based class is for the beginner who has had some prior ballet experience. The dancer will learn proper terminology and the class will increase in difficulty as the year progresses.

Ballet 3
Details: For dancers who have completed ballet level 2 or have teacher approval
Description: Curriculum based ballet technique.

Ballet 4
Details: For the intermediate dancer who has completed ballet level 3 or has teacher approval
Description: Curriculum based Ballet technique

Ballet 4/5 with Pre-Pointe
Details: For the intermediate dancer who has completed ballet level 3 or has teacher approval
Description: The class will be divided into one 60 minutes of ballet with 30 minutes of Pointe. Curriculum based ballet technique with pre-pointe.

Ballet 5-7 and Pre-Pointe
Details: Must have completed ballet level 4 or have teacher approval.
Class Description: This curriculum-based class is for the intermediate dancer and will include pre-pointe and/or pointe level 1. The class will be divided into 90 minutes of ballet with 30 minutes of Pointe.

Ballet 7/8 with Pointe
Details: 10 & Up; for the dancer who has completed level 6 ballet or has teacher approval
Description: For the pre-advanced to advanced dancer who has completed ballet level 6 and is dancing en pointe or needs to strengthen their ballet with pre-pointe work. The class will be divided into one 90 minutes of ballet with 30 minutes of Pointe

Ballet 8-10 with Pointe
Details: For the pre-advanced to advanced dancer who has completed ballet level 7
Description: This curriculum-based class is for the pre-advanced to advanced dancer who is already dancing en pointe or needs to strengthen their ballet with pre-pointe work. The class will be divided into 90 minutes of ballet with 30 minutes of Pointe.

Ballet 9/10 with Pointe
Details: Ages 10 & Up; for the dancer who has completed level 8 ballet or has teacher approval
Description: For advanced dancer who has completed ballet level 8 and is dancing en pointe or needs to strengthen their ballet with pre-pointe work. The class will be divided into 90 minutes of ballet with 30 minutes of Pointe

Ballet Technique
Detail: For ballet level 7-10; for pre-advanced to advanced dancer
Description: For the pre-advanced to advanced dancer who wants to go back to basics and breakdown the fundamentals of ballet. Focus will concentrate on the precision of ballet technique. This class supports the curriculum-based ballet classes.

Jazz

Jazz Level 1
Details: Ages 6-9; beginner dancer
For the beginning dancer with an introduction to jazz technique with isolations, kicks, turns, leaps, combinations of footwork all to fun age appropriate music.

Jazz 2/3
Details: Ages 7-12
Description: This class will focus on jazz technique with body isolations, high kicks, big leaps and combinations of steps to popular music.

Jazz 4/5 with tap
Details: Ages 8&Up; for the intermediate dancer who has completed jazz 3 or has teacher approval
Description: Dancers will have jazz technique and learn jazz combinations for the first 45 minutes of class; followed by 30 minutes of tap technique. This class is for the intermediate jazz dancer who also wants to learn the fundamentals of tap to increase footwork speed.

Jazz 6/7 with Tap
Details: For the pre-advanced dancer who has completed level 5 jazz or has teacher approval
Description: This class will focus on increasing level of difficulty of isolations, high kicks, turns, leaps and patterns for 45 minutes; followed by foundational tap technique to increase the speed of footwork for 30 minutes.

Jazz 8 with Tap
Details: For the pre-advanced dancer who has completed level 7 jazz or has teacher approval
Description: This class will focus on increasing level of difficulty of isolations, high kicks, turns, leaps and patterns for 45 minutes; followed by foundational tap technique to increase the speed of footwork for 30 minutes.

Jazz 9/10 with Tap
Details: For the advanced jazz dancer who has completed Level 8 jazz or has teacher approval
Description: This class will focus on increasing level of difficulty of isolations, high kicks, turns, leaps and patterns for 45 minutes; followed by foundational tap technique to increase the speed of footwork for 30 minutes.

Tap

Tap 1/2
Details: Ages 5 -11
Description: For the beginning and beginning tapper with experience. Learn tap technique with rhythms and patterns to fun music.

Tap 2/3
Details: Ages 7&Up; for dancers who have completed Level 1 tap or have teacher approval
Description: This class is for the beginner tapper with some tap experience. The dancer will work on increasing the speed of his/her footwork, tackle more challenging rhythms and increase his/her ability with complex patterns.

Tap 4/5
Details: Ages 8 & Up; for dancers who have completed Level 3 tap or have teacher approval.
Description: It’s for the beginner tapper with some tap experience. The dancer will work on increasing the speed of his/her footwork, tackle more challenging rhythms and increase his/her ability with complex patterns.

Tap Choreography
Description: Tap combinations for our most advanced levels 6-8. This class is all choreography.

Hip Hop

Primary Hip Hop
Details: Ages 4-6
Description: For the beginning young dancer who wants to groove to age appropriate music in hip hop style.

Boys Hip Hop
Details: Ages 7 & Up
Description: A Boy’s Only Hip Hop Class! This class is a fun introduction to the beginning fundamentals of hip hop dance using trendy movements to age appropriate popular music

Hip Hop 1
Details: Ages 7 & Up
Description: Fun introduction to the beginning fundamentals of hip hop dance using trendy movements to age appropriate popular music

Hip Hop 2
Details: Ages 9&Up; for dancers who have completed Level 1 or have had prior hip hop experience
Description: This class is for the beginner hip-hop student with some experience. This class will focus more on the intricacies of hip hop and will increase in difficulty as the year progresses.

Hip Hop 3/4
Detail: For dancers who have completed level 2 hip hop or have teacher approval
Description: This class focuses on learning more intricate movement with syncopated rhythms and exploring the varying styles of hip hop. High energy movement.

Hip Hop 5
Detail: For dancers who have completed level 4 hip hop or have teacher approval.
Description: The level 5 hip hop dancer will continue learning more intricate movement with syncopated rhythms and adding more styles of hip hop with crumping, tutting, breaking, waving, popping and locking and other urban techniques. High energy movement.

Miscellaneous Dance

Contemporary 1
Details: This class is for dancers who are ballet level 3 + or have teacher approval
Description: Introduction to the foundations of contemporary movement and proper body alignment.

Contemporary 2
Details: Level 7 dancer with previous experience.
Description: Exploration of combinations of movement with modern, jazz and ballet styles. This class will utilize the study of Horton, Graham, Limon, Cunningham, classical ballet and jazz through space and time.

Lyrical
Details: This class is for dancers who are ballet level 3 & Up
Description: The study of movement that tells a story to the lyrics of songs. A background of ballet training is essential to further movement exploration.

Strength and Flex
Details: For levels 3 & Up
Description: Designed for the dancer who wants to increase his/her strength and flexibility in dancing. Designed to help with injury prevention and core strength as well as stamina and length of lines while dancing

Zumba
Description: Dance Fitness fused with using fun Latin based and popular music. Great Cardio Workout!

Turns & Leaps

Turns & Leaps 1
Details: Ages 6 &Up This class is appropriate for the level 2 and 3 ballet or jazz student.
Class Description: The dancer will learn the basics of turning and leaping with the goal of increasing speed, precision, and technique. This class prepares the dancer for Turns and Leaps 2.

Turns and Leaps 2
Details: Must have completed Turns & Leaps 1 or have teacher approval
Description: Ideal for the competition dancer and/or recreational dancer who wants to improve the speed and precision of his/her turns and leaps.

Turns and Leaps 3
Details: Must have completed Turns and Leaps 2 or have teacher approval
Description: Ideal for the competition dancer and/or recreational dancer who wants to improve the speed and precision of his/her turns and leaps as well as the shape and extension of his/her leaps.

Turns and Leaps 4
Details: For dancers who have completed Turns and Leaps 3 or have teacher approval
Ideal for the competition dancer and/or recreational dancer who wants to improve the speed and precision of his/her turns and leaps as well as the shape and extension of his/her leaps.

Turns and Leaps 5
Details: For dancers who have completed Turns & Leaps 4 or have teacher approval
Description: This class is for the competition dancer. It is a class that will focus on increasing the speed and accuracy of the dancer’s turns. The dancer will work on improving the level of difficulty of his/her turns and leaps as well as working on combinations of the two.

Fundamentals

Ballet Fundamentals
Details: Ages 9 & Up
Description: This class is for the beginning or beginning with experienced level dancer who wants to learn the fundamentals of ballet or the dancer who wants to maintain their ballet technique and progress to Ballet Fundamentals 2.

Ballet Fundamentals 2
Detail: Ages 11 & Up
Description: For the dancer who wants to study fundamental ballet with increasing difficulty. Ideal for the dancer who wants to maintain or progress further in his/her study.

Jazz & Tap Fundamentals
Details: Ages 11 & Up
Description: This class is ideal for those dancers interested in musical theater and want to improve their dance technique. Foundations of tap and jazz will be taught in this class.
